Cutting force and specific energy for rotary ultrasonic drilling based on kinematics analysis of vibration effectiveness

Rotary ultrasonic drilling (RUD) has become an effective approach for machining advanced composites which are widely using in the field of aeronautics. The cutting kinematics and corresponding material removal mechanisms distinct different areas during RUD. However, these fundamentals have not been fully considered existing studies. In this research, two forms interaction induced by vibration were as impact-separation vibratory lapping between abrasives workpiece. And conditions to guarantee effectiveness interactions obtained eliminate diminishing effects vibration. Based on indentation fracture theory, penetration depth axial force model was derived verification tests C/SiC resulted a prediction error within 15%. Due minimal volume removed each cycle, more stable assisted mode. specific energy RUD firstly calculated based measured load. It found parameters should be matched with frequency amplitude make better usage advantages vibration, is critical processing materials.
